St. John’s Kirk has been at the heart of the City of Perth since the time of King David I in the 12th Century.  In 1559, it witnessed the sermon preached by John Knox which ignited the Scottish Reformation and Bonnie Prince Charlie worshipped there in 1745. Sir Robert Lorimer restored it in the 1920s as the War Memorial to the Great War.  More recently, in 2006, a Service was held to mark the 700th Anniversary of the enthronement of King Robert the Bruce.  It will fulfil a central role during the 800th Anniversary of the Royal Burgh of Perth in 2010.

The Vision for the Future Project has been designed to build on this rich heritage and enhance the potential of the Kirk for all its uses in the years ahead  - as a congregation of the Church of Scotland and as a venue for artistic events for the wider community.
